Cadiz Southeastern Railway Launch Kick-off Event
December 6, 2012: Cadiz Inc. previewed plans to operate a tourist steam train, cultural center and museum in the Cadiz Valley during a luncheon event today at the Company’s Cadiz Ranch. The visitor-oriented steam train venture, dubbed the Cadiz Southeastern Railway, would operate along a portion of the Arizona & California Railroad between Cadiz and Parker, Arizona. This Mojave Desert route, which is located just off historic Route-66, offers sweeping views of the Cadiz and Ward Valleys and various surrounding desert mountain ranges. The steam train and new depot would pay tribute to the area’s rich history and provide a cultural magnet to draw people from across the country to visit the many wonders of the eastern Mojave Desert.
Local historical societies, business groups and railroad enthusiasts attended the luncheon event, which included a tour of the Cadiz agricultural operations and also featured a steam engine demonstration conducted by the Filmore & Western Railway. The support of the local community and historical society members will be invaluable to the success of the future development. At the event, Cadiz President Scott Slater shared various artist renderings of the proposed Cadiz train depot and the desert landscapes that would be seen by train passengers. The proposed depot will offer new meeting space, a restaurant and also house the museum/cultural center.
The Cadiz Southeastern Railway endeavor is still in its early stages, but the Company plans to continue to work collaboratively with local interests to implement a strong operation that will not only attract tourists and rail fans but also provide a long-term benefit for the desert region.
